Shaping debate on religion in public life.

Advert for a new Chair of Trustees

28 Apr 2020

The William Temple Foundation is an innovative and ground-breaking research and ideas hub, shaping debate on religion in public life. Founded in 1947, it seeks to connect Christian social concerns to the realities of the secular world by generating ideas about the impact of religion on civil society, wellbeing, politics and economics, and urban change. The Foundation currently has 20 Trustees, Associate Research Fellows, and William Temple Scholars.

We are currently organising a radical three-year re-structuring programme and are looking for a new trustee-Chair with experience in organisational management and fundraising capabilities to join our dedicated team. Applicants are expected to be self-motivated and sympathetic to the ethos, aims and objectives of the Foundation, irrespective of their personal beliefs, values or worldviews.

Trustees are asked to:

  • Attend council meetings three times a year.
  • Share with staff and Associate Research Fellows the task of developing and promoting the profile of the Foundation.
  • Think strategically about the long-term future and management of the organisation, including its long-term financial resilience in challenging times.

The Foundation offers trustees:

  • All reasonable travel expenses.
  • The chance to develop new skills.
  • The opportunity to work on national and regional projects.
  • The opportunity to have research papers and broadsheet think-pieces published on a national scale.
  • The opportunity to make a real impact on the future of the Foundation and its work on the place of religion in public life.

A full role description for the Chair of Trustees can be downloaded here.

To apply, please send a two-page CV and covering letter to the acting Chair of Trustees, the Rev’d Dr Hayley Matthews, by 6.00pm, Sunday 31 May 2020. Please include in your covering letter a brief statement outlining any previous change management and fundraising experience you may have. The acting Chair of Trustees will be in touch with all applicants within two weeks of the deadline.

For further enquiries please contact Hayley Matthews or the Director of Research, Professor Chris Baker.
